During this live and interactive webinar, social workers and nurses in attendance obtain a better understanding of how to manage work after a diagnosis, including how to continue working during treatment, take time off, replace lost income, understand retirement options, and navigate the health insurance and financial implications of each decision.

This webinar will provide social workers, nurses, and other types of health care professionals with a foundation to help patients understand their rights and provide appropriate referrals. All attendees will have the opportunity to ask the speakers questions in real-time via a chat box.

Nurses

Triage Cancer is accredited as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation. Nurses who meet the requirements will be awarded 1.5 contact hour.

90 minutes of instruction/60 minutes = 1.5 contact hour

Social Workers

Triage Cancer, #1689, is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Organizations, not individual courses, are approved as ACE providers. State and provincial regulatory boards have the final authority to determine whether an individual course may be accepted for continuing education credit. Triage Cancer maintains responsibility for this course. ACE provider approval period: 08/26/2023 to 08/26/2026. Social workers completing this course receive 1.5 continuing education credit.

Triage Cancer is recognized by the New York State Education Department's State Board for Social Work as an approved provider of continuing education for licensed social workers #SW-0626. Social workers completing this course will receive 1.5 contact hours.

If you would like a general certificate of completion, you must indicate that when completing the webinar evaluation form. You must attend the entire event.

Evaluation forms are emailed after the webinar and are required for a certificate. You will also receive a post-test, which is not mandatory, but strongly encouraged.

Agenda

  • 11:00-11:05am – Welcome and Speaker Introduction
  • 11:05-12:25pm – Overview of decisions related to managing work and a diagnosis
  • 12:25-12:30pm – Questions & Answers
  • 12:30-12:40pm – Post Test

Objectives

  • Attendees will be able to describe how the ADA and FMLA can be useful
  • Attendees will be able to articulate how disability insurance can be useful to someone who can no long work, temporarily or permanently, as a result of a diagnosis of a medical condition
  • Attendees will be able to delineate the advantages/disadvantages of each option (e.g., accommodations, medical leave, retirement, etc.)

Requirements to Receive Credit (all professionals)

In order to receive CE/contact hour/PDC, attendees must register individually. Participants who “listen in” on another participant’s phone/computer will not be eligible for credit. Participants must attend the entire webinar. No partial credit will be given.

Post-test & Evaluation

Participants will be emailed a link to the online evaluation and post-test one DAY after the completion of the webinar and will have one week to complete both. Participants must receive a passing grade (80%) on the post-test to receive CE/contact hour (only required for nurses and social workers). Participants who do not pass the post-test will be given one opportunity to re-take the test. Instructions and a link to re-take the exam will be emailed to every participant who does not receive a passing grade on the post-test. If participants do not pass the post-test on the second attempt they will not receive credit.

Certificates

The relevant certificates will be emailed to eligible attendees within 4 weeks of the event.
