Prescription Drug Donation Programs

Prescription drug donation programs present a powerful solution at the intersection of health equity, environmental sustainability, and support for underserved communities. These initiatives recover unopened, unexpired medications, typically donated by nursing homes, hospitals, or other health care facilities, and redistribute them to low-income, uninsured, or otherwise vulnerable individuals who might otherwise go without.

This resource provides a state-by-state guide to donation programs, including where programs are located, program names, eligibility requirements to access donated drugs, and how to get in touch (phone or website). You’ll also find details on whether medications can be donated, along with additional notes and resources for each state.

For more information about accessing prescription drugs generally, visit our Prescription Drugs Resource Module.
