Supplemental Security Income State Laws
When someone qualifies for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits, they may live in a state where they are eligible for a state supplemental amount, added to their monthly federal SSI payment.
Also, when an individual is eligible for SSI, in most states, that individual is also automatically eligible for health insurance coverage through Medicaid. If someone lives in a “209(b)” state, they are not automatically eligible for Medicaid, but may have additional application requirements.
This chart shows which states offer a state supplemental payment and which states are 209(b) states. Check back often, as this chart is updated frequently.
