26 May Supporting Parents Living with Metastatic Cancer
May 26, 2026 ~ Parenting while living with metastatic cancer brings unique challenges. Alongside treatment and medical decisions, parents are often balancing caregiving responsibilities, supporting their children emotionally, navigating work and finances, and planning for the future.
To help address these challenges, Triage Cancer and Bright Spot Network have partnered to create Beyond Diagnosis: Empowering Parents Navigating Metastatic Cancer, a free program designed for parents living with metastatic cancer and the health care professionals who support them.
What the Program Includes
The program provides practical education, family-focused resources, and one-on-one support through four key components:
- A 4-part educational webinar series
- Educational materials and resources
- Legal & Financial Navigation Program
- Family Resource Navigation Program
Educational Webinar Series
The webinar series addresses the practical, emotional, legal, and family-centered issues that often arise for parents living with metastatic cancer.
Topics include:
- Parenting with Metastatic Cancer (June 9): Exploring the physical, emotional, social, and spiritual realities of parenting while living with metastatic disease.
- Navigating the Practical Issues of Metastatic Cancer: Insurance, Work, & Finances (July 14): Practical guidance on employment, disability insurance, health insurance, and financial considerations.
- Supporting Caregivers Through Metastatic Cancer (August 18): Resources and strategies to support caregivers, including legal protections, support networks, and self-care.
- Legacy Work: Advance Planning & Meaningful End-of-Life Projects for Parents with Metastatic Cancer (September 15): Advance planning, legacy projects, and supporting children and families through future planning.

Educational Materials and Resources
Participants will have access to practical educational resources designed to help families navigate the legal and financial issues that often arise after a cancer diagnosis.
Practical Guides
Triage Cancer’s Practical Guides are designed to help individuals understand and navigate the practical and legal issues that often arise after a cancer diagnosis. These guides provide clear, actionable information to help families understand their rights, make informed decisions, and plan for the future.
- Practical Guide to Cancer Rights for Caregivers
Practical information about workplace rights, health insurance options, taking time off work, job protections, understanding paid and unpaid leave options, and more. - Practical Guide to Parenting with Cancer
Practical information about health insurance, employment rights, disability insurance, financial planning, estate planning, talking with children about cancer, and planning for the future. Sign up to have a copy mailed to you.
Bright Box and Bright Reads
Families participating in the program can also access Bright Box and Bright Reads, a collection of free books, activities, and family resources designed specifically for children of parents with cancer from Bright Spot Network.
- Families can sign up to receive three free books, The Invisible String, Someone I Love Has Cancer, and The Adventure Jar, along with three free art projects designed especially for children of parents with cancer. The art projects are intended for children ages 2 to 5.
- Families will also receive a copy of Bright Spot Network’s guide, Talking to Kids About Cancer, which provides practical guidance for parents navigating conversations with children about cancer and its impact on the family.
One-on-One Support Through the Legal & Financial Navigation Program
Parents often face complex questions about insurance, employment, finances, and planning. Triage Cancer’s Legal & Financial Navigation Program provides free, one-on-one support to help individuals understand their options. Through this program, parents can connect with experienced attorneys and a network of Certified Financial Planners®.
Family Resource Navigation Program
Through Bright Spot Network’s Family Resource Navigation Program, families can receive individualized support to help navigate cancer and treatment while caring for children. Services include organizing support systems, connecting families with national and regional resources, coaching parents on how to talk with children, and identifying coping strategies to help decrease stress.
Supporting Parents and Families
Living with metastatic cancer while parenting can feel overwhelming, but no family should have to navigate it alone. Through Beyond Diagnosis: Empowering Parents Navigating Metastatic Cancer, Triage Cancer and Bright Spot Network are working together to provide practical education, trusted resources, and meaningful support for parents and families.
