A group of volunteers working to support the cancer community stack their hands to display teamwork.

Volunteer to Support the Cancer Community

One of the most impactful ways to support the cancer community is by volunteering! And, if you're still looking for a New Year's resolution, volunteering more is a great one. Triage Cancer depends on dedicated volunteers all over the country to fulfill our mission of providing free education to individuals diagnosed with cancer and their caregivers. We have volunteer opportunities for everyone – health care professionals, lawyers and recent graduates, students at all academic levels, and anyone else who wants to help. And nearly all activities are available remotely!

Most importantly, volunteering is an opportunity to positively impact real lives in your community.

Health Care Professionals

Triage Cancer’s Scientific Advisory Council positions us to provide health care professionals and the cancer community the most relevant and accurate information available. The Scientific Advisory Council includes experts in medicine, mental health, nursing, social work, patient navigation, nutrition, oncofertility, financial management, insurance, relationships, sexuality and intimacy, pain and palliative care, advocacy, and others areas of cancer survivorship.

If you are interested in supporting Triage Cancer in any of these substantive areas of cancer survivorship, learn more and apply now!

Lawyers

Have a law degree? Apply to join the Triage Cancer Legal Advisory Council! The Legal Advisory Council includes attorneys with a connection to the cancer community. If you are interested in supporting our work or are a lawyer with expertise pertaining to the legal issues often faced by those in the cancer community (think insurance, employment, estate planning, consumer law, etc.), we need you!

Public Interest Law Initiative

A great way for new lawyers to get involved is through the Public Interest Law Initiative (PILI). Triage Cancer is a host agency for the PILI Graduate Fellowship Program. The program pays new associates from Chicago law firms to work with us, helping individuals coping with cancer navigate the legal and practical issues that they face.

Law Student Externships

Triage Cancer accepts applications for law student externs to work with us during the fall, spring, and summer semesters. Under the supervision of Triage Cancer’s CEO and COO, who are both cancer rights attorneys, externs support Triage Cancer’s delivery of cancer-related legal programs and services. Externs provide education on cancer-related legal issues, learn client interviewing skills, conduct legal and policy research, and write about various matters, including insurance, employment, health care, disability, government benefits, estate planning, and consumer law.
