Where you live matters

usa_rolloverThis issue comes up a lot in cancer survivorship . . . where you live matters.  It can make a difference in where you go to get treatment, what support services are available, and

But it also applies when you are looking for information about what benefits and protections might be available to in your state or even your city.  Where you live can affect your ability to access fair employment protections, paid leave options, and even health insurance coverage.

For example, if you live in California, you are protected by state fair employment laws if your employer has at least five employees.

On the other hand, if you live in Illinois, you are protected by state fair employment laws if your employer has at least one employee.

Connecticut is the only state that requires employers to provide paid sick leave to employees.  However some cities, such as San Francisco, CA, also have this requirement.

The bottom line is that you need to know what applies to you, based on where you live.
